‘Filth’ documents a wall under a highway overpass. Intrigued by the streaks formed by water, soot, rust and other materials, I duplicated one streak by means of a real size print placed next to it. From a fixed standpoint I documented what happened to it. What followed was a game between the municipality, local graffiti writers and me, where each tried to leave or remove a mark on the wall. After one year I placed an overview on the wall itself in the form of 15 photos. These were rephotographed three times as they became part of the same process of dripping and eventual deterioration.
This resulted in a series of 45 medium format slides.
